BEST DETECTIVE STORIES OF THE YEAR - 1947

From various magazines, pulp to popular, a collection of the year's short stories in the mystery field. By no means quality, but acceptable, these are authored by names familiar and unfamiliar: -- of the former, A. A. Milne, Ellery Queen, Stuart Palmer; Philip MacDonald with a tricky tale of a man and a wife and some arsenic; Joel Townsley Rogers with the story of a husband's reprisal on his wife's lover; and Margaret St. Clair's portrait of an artist who liked to draw still lifes -- these are clever if contrived...Although the short story is not the ideal medium for mystery fiction, the selection here will pass time passably.
