Predictably Daiches writes with grace and ease conceming the historical personage and biblical figure known as Moses. Daiches has selected major findings by archeologists, historians, etymologists and biblical scholars for his version of Moses' contributions: ""He rediscovered and reinterpreted his own relationship with his people and his ancestors; he rediscovered and reinterpreted the meaning of Yahweh;. . . he was to recast and revitalize traditional bodies of law."" Generously illustrated, although the inclusion of some overly dark photographs and reproductions as well as color plates is regrettable.
