THE KREMLIN by David Douglas Duncan

The noted photographer (The Private World of Pablo Picasso) was able to secure Kruschev's consent to take pictures of the Kremlin treasures- which appear with overpowering splendor in the 83 color plates here. The explanatory text provides the legendary and historical background in some detail. From the first views of the city, its cathedrals and palaces, to within the Grand Kremlin Palace and its paintings, robes, frescoes, armor, coaches and crowns- the fabulous treasures appear: Monomakh's Golden Cap, the Cloth of Christ, the jeweled Book of Gospels, the Diamond Thorne, Catherine the Great's wedding dress, etc., etc.
