Descriptive and anecdotal, with clear cut discussion of principles of interpretation, and critical commentaries on conductors from the beginning to the present. There is a biographical guide, an excellent bibliography, an index, making this a valuable reference book for library and school shelves. Tie up with Viking's book on Toscanini, to be published on the 20th. One should create a plus sale for the other.
