A ""Lippincott Page Turner,"" this slim novel serves up an intriguing plot as well as an approachable yet uncondescending style and format. Narrator Rick is drawn to two new students who appear at school in his senior year, especially after it develops that all three share the same birth date. Sam(antha) and Pete promptly fall in love; then a series of odd coincidences convinces Rick that they are actually reincarnations of his own parents, who died in an automobile accident the night he was born. His investigations--taking Sam and Pete to the house where his parents had lived, talking to a professor about other cases of reincarnation--all confirm his suspicion. When Sam and Pete marry right after graduation and are soon to have a child, Rick is afraid that history will repeat itself--a real danger that he barely manages to avert in the book's last pages. A book that does what it sets out to do, and does it well.
