A somewhat pedestrian, though well researched series of brief biographies dealing with women who broke the barriers of anti-feminism and became outstanding in their chosen fields. The life stories of Susan Anthony, Belva Lockwood, Alice Hamilton, and others are presented in a routine fashion, stressing their achievements rather than illustrating any particular quality they might have had as individuals. Of historical and sociological interest, this is at no point compelling, dramatic.
