KIRKUS REVIEW

A shore leave in Hangkok which is fortunately a short one and which displays some unpleasant types, some spurious to shady activities, and which omits little of the filth which fasters in the Orient. Equally doubtful are the affairs of De Carlo who with his alcoholic partner Allpike plans to dispose of some contraband cigarettes; his attempt to buy off a customs man; his closing of the deal with a Chinaman; his picking up and bedding down of a native girl, Saang; and the eventual decision to stay on there with Saeng as he turns over the money to Allpike. Purposeless, thin is also distasteful.
