THE PARADISE PEOPLE

Africa and the Boers, in the story of Ouma and Oupa (grandparents to you) with incidents ranging from an apprenticeship under a water diviner, to a hilarious courtship, to grimmer tales of civil war. There's an overall vivid if nostalgic sense of the dark vastness of Africa, and while it is unquestionably factually backgrounded, it is fictional in form. A man draws his pioneering forebears as he grew up remembering them- all 15 feet tall!
