Jim Hart, the St. Louis Cardinals quarterback, isn't a very colorful or interesting subject for a biography, and he's made less so in this ho-hum treatment, heavily salted with statistics, quotes from sportswriters, and unrevealing interviews. This almost game-by-game rehash of his career, from high school in Morton Grove, Illinois, to an NFL division championship season in 1974, surveys his up-and-down record--on one occasion St. Louis fans cheered when he was injured--and makes him almost an object of pity. Though Hart himself is a welcome change from the super-jocks who make it look too easy, his appearance in this book is only for undiscriminating fans.
