THE COMPANION GUIDE TO LONDON by David Piper

THE COMPANION GUIDE TO LONDON

By

Publisher: Harper & Row

David Piper says of his book on London, ""as addict, I have happily written this book, in the modest hope that it may infect one or two others."" He then proceeds to a thorough, straightforward look at localities and landmarks from the Tower to Trafalgar Square and beyond. Piccadilly, Mayfair, Chelsea, Bloomsbury, etc., etc., all are here along with Westminster Abbey, The British Museum, St. Paul's. Solid, accountable, his is an at-the-spot guide rather than a planned route ramble such as the Martins provided in England (see p. 152, 1963) with greater gaiety. His appendices offer information on travel in the city, hotels, eating and drinking, shopping, museums (and hours), city churches, art dealers, entertainment and the arts, markets, annual exhibitions and other events, and some books on London. Illustrated with photographs and maps. An alternate choice in a field, which, as the author recognizes, has received much attention.
