HIGH HOPES FOR LOW SPIRITS by David Seabury

HIGH HOPES FOR LOW SPIRITS

By

Publisher: Little, Brown

A prod to positive thinking comes from Dr. Seabury, who believes that negativity results from the shutting off of the innate sense of guidance in the child. Stressing affirmative attitudes in a world where undue displacement is a disturbing element, he illustrates them with the teachings of Jesus. A clinical psychologist who feels that there is something wrong in our relation to the social structure of life but not with life itself, Dr. Seabury sets forth concepts through which we may become the instrument for inspiration and take our place in the universe. He refers to the ""new"" and ""newer psychology"" and its teachings and sets up a framework aside from Freud's which consists of the affirmative telearche (esse, tele, horme) and the negative anarche (id, ego, libido). In discussing how to transform negative to positive, he expounds the part of the imagination, habits, memory, will. A psychological pep-talk with religious underpinnings and therepeutic overtones, this is a successor to the author's How Jesus Heals Our Minds Today.
