BEST SPORT STORIES: 1949 Edition

Once again the judges failed to agree on the best and the public gets a wider choice, so their differences bear fruit. Baseball fans will like Stevens' Bearden the Lion and Bill Corum's The Durocher Story and They're Just Wild About Boudreau. There are some top ranking football stories, with Abramson's Middle Miracle best of the lot. Basketball, track, horse racing, all represented with better than average. But our pick of the lot is John Lardner's Story of Stanley Ketchel (prize fight story), with Stiles The Ghost of Wembley (Decathlon story), a close second. Excellent collection, almost ranking with the 1947 edition, which still tops them all.
