A companion volume to Fighting Indians of the West and Trail Driving Days is again a picture presentation- there will be 300 photographs- of an earlier era. And the story of western migration, in which ""good land... for a poor man's home"" was the driving spirit, begins with the first crossing by wagon- then by rail- until the frontier of the present became the folklore of the past. Here are the ""faces of the western pioneer"", building, farming, prospecting and logging; his town- and its schools and churches and culture; the frontier amusements- shows and rodeos; the establishment of law and order and politics; and the making of his myths- Davy Crockett and Horace Greeley and Buffalo Bill.
