An out and out exciting adventure story by a writer who knows how to make them move (Von Ryan's Express) turning the comers in Mexico on not quite all of the wheels of the four trucks hired to deport an eighteen ton pre-Colombian basalt statue, the Olmec Head of the title. Sandifer, the man behind the high-priced art deal hires Sam Bell, a young man whose conscience rightly twinges, and his assistant Donna, she has none, to effect the operation and the convoy of trucks heads into one trouble after another -- the main one being Tomas Alvarado Ybarra of the Federal Judicial Police who is determined to protect his heritage. Westheimer's story is told with craft -- both kinds, and it's obviously quite photovisual so Feliz Viaje or have a nice trip. You will -- sooner or later.
