GOING PUBLIC

Westheimer, as Donald Westlake sometimes does, has attempted a book-length joke but it would have been nice if he had had a story to implement the idea which is mostly a lot of dialogue tickertaped together about three entrepreneurs of murder who decide to incorporate and go public -- raising the unit prices of their ""undertakings."" The enterprise revolves around Wall Street rather than Little Italy, their successes are no more than hit and run statistics, and it's probably a question of where you carry your sense of humor. Mr. Westheimer's funnybone is in his elbow and you can see it coming.
