A small story for wee grown-ups, a Christmas story, a Christmas During the Depression story, this is about the Dances; about Toby who is five; and Jewel, their maid, who is a dreamy seventeen; and old Grandma Marya who is dying all alone upstairs; and the magic goblet which is given them by Mr. Mooney the garbage man; and the mirror which is Jewel's gift from elderly Mr. Purdy and which makes her more beautiful; and, oh yes, the tree, which refuses to come down ever so that they can keep Christmas all year round and ""bring love alive."" To contradict the message, this is really no more than a seasonal reminder--sort of like a popcorn ball.
