Another subdued romance in familiar vein in the story of Tonia who, as younger daughter, very much misunderstood, had a difficult childhood and girlhood. She finds her luch when she marries Robert, much older, who gives her security and assurance. His death, through overwork in this war, leaves her a wealthy widow and she goes to live in a house inherited from an old family servant. She makes new friendships, with British and American fliers, with old family acquaintances, with Bay -- whom she had known as a child and whose French fiancee comes to board. She sees an old tragedy righted in the marriage of one of her new friends, and Bay -- now rid of his French girl-turns to her. Pleasant, and tying into earlier books in the appearance of several characters and backgrounds -- and comfortable.
