Homer Mouse learns how to assert himself in the face of Harriet’s overwhelming gratitude at having her life saved. Tryon’s delightful pen-and-ink illustrations bring life to the predictable text. Ample white space, generous font, and predictable plot, all hallmarks of an early chapter book, appear on these pages. However, awkward word choice makes this average fare for new chapter-book readers. (Fiction. 6-9)
