MARTYRS OF THE OBLONG AND LITTLE NINE

An historical study of the Mohican Indians of Duchess County-from the early 18th century to the beginning of the 19th- and their convertors, the Moravian Brethren. These courageous, wandering preachers and their Mohican converts were persecuted, expulsed, particularly during the revolutionary war. They suffered from pressure on all sides, attempted to remain neutral, were the victims of attack and massacre, but always rebuilt what was destroyed and started off again in comparative peace after the war, their numbers and resources greatly diminished. Thoroughgoing, but sharply specialized.
