DEATH BY INCHES

Dell Shannon, who, like Creasey, uses several pseudonyms, also keeps her detective, Luis Mendoza, busy with several simultaneous cases on the Homicide Bureau blotter-- namely a succession of very elderly women Who do not die of old age-- a Mrs. Stromberg is the 13th victim; the suicide of one Alfredo Gonzales; but primarilly the dismembered body of an anonymous woman, most of whose parts turn up in the middle of a lake while the head of a (second?) casualty has a more conventional burial in a cemetery. Mendoza shows the same expected efficiency along with a sudden illumination which enables him to conclude the grisly business at hand..... Procedural police work, capably handled.
