Not a full length biography (cf. most recently Manvell's Chaplin -- p. 987) -- but a nice word and picture sashay through the life and films of the East End kid who first dogged to keep his father in the drink. This 100 page text with accompanying pictures (also about 100 -- some in color) is in the British Movie Makers series and a film by film review of the dusty Little Tramp in derby hat and baggy pants who became both an artistic and historical event; or as G.B.S. said, ""the one genius created by the cinema"" from the saucy slapstick comedies to Modern Times where he endures. Some interpretation, but it will be the illustrations, from Chaplin's collection, of old advertisements, comic strip drawings, posters, etc., which will attract the great buffoon's buffs.
