Stephie, 17, came to terms with first love and lost her uncertainty when she dated Scott, the smooth but fickle swain whose interest strayed to a rival. Stephie stood her ground, dated Jim, and sensibly rejected Scott when he did an about-face and pleaded for more of her time. The style is slick and glossy: Stephie seems more like a junior-high school student in her attitudes and personality. The story line is thin and characterization is emaciated.
