KIRKUS REVIEW
Mr. Kincald's Durber last year established him as an authentic portrayer of certain phases of life in India. This story reads as more frankly fiction, -- a sort of harlot's progress, saved from unpleasant sordidness by the colorful background, and by high spots of good writing. A bit purple, in some of its passages, so don't sell to your conservative market. The setting is North West India, and the story follows the career of a half-caste dancer, from the training in the household of a courtesan, through weirdly fantastic adventures.
