WORLD DEVELOPMENT: Challenge to the Churches

This is the official report of, and the papers delivered at, the Conference of Society, Peace and Development (SODEPAX), held at Beirut, Lebanon, in April, 1968; under the joint auspices of the Vatican Commission on Peace and Freedom and the World Council of Churches, The Report itself suggests concrete steps that must betaken, from the social and economic standpoints, if the scandal of starvation and poverty is to be eradicated from the modern world. The rhetoric and the ponti-fications are reserved for some of the papers which were read at the Conference; and, of the thirteen stich that are reprinted here, at least six may be passed over with no loss either to the poor or to the reader. This volume, with its appendix of supporting documents, is a necessary work of reference for religious libraries and for the larger secular libraries.
