KIRKUS REVIEW

New York and Westchester and the custom built living of the upper middle classes circling the story of Lawrence Herrick, his disorders- partly physical, partly emotional, and the involvements they create. Convinced that he will soon die of the rheumatic heart he has had since childhood, happily married to Irene for many years, Herrick decides to subdue Irene's sorrow at his future death by forcing her to forget him now. Taking up with a model, he is unable to go through with the infidelity he plans, instead becomes suspicious of Irene and builds up a case against her with obsessive, imaginative furor. At the end, realizing how misguided he has been, he dispels all doubts- even his neurotically nurtured heart condition...Definitely dubious.
