Here is a lively biography of a man who realized his boyhood dream. When Robert Goddard was in high school, he had a reputation for solving any problem by way of mathematical formulae. Encouraged by his family, Robert pursued his scientific experiments even at the risk of interroricing household servants. Robert's particular idea seemed like science fiction. He believed that one day man would harness atomic energy which would power rockets into space. After receiving his degree, he accepted a post at Clark University where he performed numerous experiments which were eventually patented. His projectiles were used in World War I and II and though he fashioned his dreams in the early 20th century, their realization years later is a tribute to his highly advanced thinking. The scientific aspects of the book are surrounded by homey warm anecdotes and the general result is readable.
