Most of this is on the brochure level, with capsule descriptions of the policeperson's various duties and requirements, excerpts from tests and lists of training courses, and a catalogue of possible jobs on the city, county, and federal levels. But Muro refers frequently to her own experiences on the force in a California city; she acknowledges that male officers often resist having female colleagues but notes that policewomen frequently experience less resistance from suspects when making arrests; and her honesty--and caution--about hardened police officers' prejudice, suspicion, and brutal behavior encourage hope that women might indeed bring some humanity to the profession. (Unfortunately, the young blond model posing for the PR photos has not heeded Muro's advice against encumbering hairdos.)
