LET THE BASTARDS FREEZE IN THE DARK

A by-the-numbers thriller fin which Fairbanks, Alaska, is more or less kidnapped and held for hostage. Four revolutionary robbers--Folger is the leader--have invaded the Fairbanks Power & Light plant and are holding three hostages (an elderly secretary, a PR man, a member of the wealthy Praise Jesus congregation) until the bank delivers the ransom they've asked for. Meanwhile they've also turned off the power, and the whole area is without light and heat. It's plenty dark in the midnight sun and the frost is something between -130° to -150°, cold beyond belief with exposed flesh freezing instantly. When the fumbling police chief is at last alerted to the danger, he attempts to enter the plant by stealth and is shot dead. And soon the criminals are wrangling among themselves. After the money is delivered they exit through a tunnel and drive out to the local airstrip to escape by plane, but before the plane even takes off, there's gunplay: female gang-member MB kills male robber Johansson, and Folger kills MB as she's getting into the plane, which finally takes off. . . but (as revealed in an epilogue) goes nowhere. Commonplace plot, stereotyped characters, but the riproaring quality of Fairbanks comes over loud and clear.
