CLAUDE AND PEPPER

It's almost as if the publishers had second thoughts after letting Pinkwater's Three Wild Hogs (1975) leave home and learn to like it, for when dachshund pup Pepper sets off to see the world, Gackenbach's floppy Claude the Dog sends him straight back to his family--simply by walking him past doting mothers Lila the Goose, Nora the Goat and Helen the Chicken, and pointing out how ""nice"" it is to love someone and have someone watch over you. Change ""Pepper"" to ""Corn Syrup"" and you have a more appropriate title.
