This is a tidy, flag-waving account of the Stewart family during the height of the Revolutionary War. 14-year-old Randy Stewart, inflamed by Patrick Henry's ""Give me liberty or give me death"", is spurred into a series of adventures. Randy's father, posing as a British sympathizer, is in reality a former officer in Washington's army, but has again taken up civilian life on his farm in New York to report the activities of the Tories. Randy, aware of the danger of the work his father is doing, tries bravely and successfully to aid him after finding an old man lying hurt in a quarry. This man turns out to be a courier for the Revolutionary forces. A home made flag, a patriotic school master, and a pompous local squire add color to this fairly routine adventure story.
