When Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote about the cost of discipleship he wrote with the authority of experience. For Bonhoeffer was a brilliant young German churchman who fought the Nazi regime in Germany even during war time and who paid the price of such opposition with his life. His friends and associates have gathered together some of his sermons and articles and prefaced them with a memoir of his life. Outstanding churchmen such as Reinhold Niebuhr and the Bishop of Chichester testify in introductory statements to the flaming quality of the faith of this modern Christian martyr.
