First of three versions of Lady Chatterly's Lover -- considered by some the best of the three, and designed -- in here being published -- to bolster Lawrence's reputation thereby. Those who read the familiar version for its erotica will be disappointed. Those who were bored by it will be more bored by this. And many who were thrilled at Lawrence's daring and sophistication back in 192 (if they laid hands on a smuggled edition of the version published in Italy) will find that it seems oddly dated today.
