KIRKUS REVIEW

We are offered in this volume commentaries on the themes of the Lenten and Easter liturgies of the Roman Catholic Church. These themes are ""social purification"" and ""social reconstruction"", which sound like contemporary issues and are. These studies, however, could just as well have been written in the 17th or 14th century as in the 20th, so little specific reference to contemporary problems is there to be found. No doubt, this is due to the author's purpose to point out that the solution of the burning issues of the day is to be found only in adherence to the ancient and tried truths of which the church is the custodian. One suspects that it is chiefly priests and teachers of religion who will profit by this volume and that it is intended primarily for their edification.
