KIRKUS REVIEW

Adding to her groups of fairy tales from other lands, Miss Haviland here retells five from the annals of Russian folklore. Some are set in the splendid court of the Tsar, others in the magical fields of the peasant -- all are first rate adaptations. Harold Danska's color wash illustrations in deep orange and somber purple ingeniously reflect the Russian scene. Third graders will love to read them alone.
