YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE WHITE HOUSE

The public's present fascination with ""young people in the White House"" can bardly justify an aimless meaudering through American history with the purpose of tracing the prevalence of youngsters on the hallowed interior of the President's residence. The author has mistakenly chosen a straight factual rather than an ancetodal style of writing-thus the reader is told that Jefferson's grandchildren brought a lonely widower much warmth, that John Quincy Adams' son was married in the White House, that Harrison once went grocery shopping with his grandchildren, that the Taft children enjoyed sliding down the stairway banisters, that President Elasnhower gave his grandson a golf lesson. However, interesting these little facts may be, they are neither developed into vignottes, nor pointed characterizations, nor are they substantial subject matter to justify a book.
