There's plenty of good ""horse"" sense in his advice and instructions on how to tackle the betting problem; there's a brief history of horse racing in America; there are many useful hints about track etiquette and lingo. Informal style-good journalese -- punctuated with anecdotes and humorous incidents in the world of the Sport of Kings. Some of his tales would top a fisherman any day. There are some sober down to earth facts- rules, glossary of terms, listing of tracks. There's a good deal about specific famous horses, trainers, jockeys- but the highest tribute is paid to ""Big Red"". There's a chapter on harness racing. All in all- a book for the fans.
