THE FORTRESS: A Story of Hillton Academy

Hillton Academy in Haines' old stamping ground, and this pulls all the stops but he emerges with a convincing story. Jealousy and rivalry between Hillton High School and Hillton Academy and their adjusting to the war serve as backdrop to this story, which centers around Bob Peyton, senior, who has shown from an early age remarkable talent as a sculptor, and Peter Oaks, young graduate, who returns from the war, having lost an arm, and takes a post as housemaster and teacher, his career as concert pianist no longer possible. Peter's adjustment to his new role, and his share in stimulating Hillton Academy to see clearly the real values in the factional fights, is told with drama, and makes holding reading against an authentic modern school atmosphere.
