KIRKUS REVIEW

Peattie could not do anything inartistically, and the manner of this -- and the decorative frienes and pictures by Naomi Averill will carry a somewhat patterned text. An adroit place of selection, for he has managed to touch the peaks and convey in surprisingly brief space a sense of the sweep of time. But section by section, the story lacks color and would touch the imagination of few children. A book that might be more successful if used with children.
