GOOD TASTE IN HOME DECORATION

A good one-volume self-help course in interior decoration, this has compressed in its pages an enormous amount of information. The things to stress in recommending this are:- (1) the acceptance of the fact that individual taste, the limitations of purse, the existence of a mixed assortment of furniture to begin with make wholesale home decoration from scratch undesirable and improbable; (2) the possibility of giving yourself a professional touch; (3) the importance of knowing certain background facts about period, quality, taste, etc. These, to some extent, distinguish this volume from many of its competitors, particularly in the handling which is commonsense, practical, and never condescending. Parson School of Design background for both author and illustrator, Marvin Culbreth, whose spot drawings in line are more informative than they are decorative.
