In his own words, with connecting links supplied by the editor, here is some of the best writing Theodore Roosevelt did on his own hunting and exploring adventures. Contrary to general belief. Theodore Roosevelt was not the frail boy that legend has pictured though his father did fire his zeal for building his strength- in order to defeat the asthma that plagued him. He became an all round athlete, though not a toprank one. But he made up in diversity what he lacked in proficiency; his zest for the out of door life is evidenced in these pages. Few appreciate the amount of time he put into practical ranching, in the Bad Lands ranch that he owned from '83 to '87. Hunting was ever his passion, and here are accounts of expeditions after deer, bear, bighorns, white goats, moose, caribou, elk. And after finishing his terms as president- his expeditions to Africa and the South Americas. For those who like to read about sporting adventures, this offers varied fare. One regrets the lack of an index, which would have added to its reference value.
