EXPERIMENTS IN ART

Warming up exercises in four different art forms, illustrated with samples of the approaches described. Stacy's minimal printing suggestions--play around with string, glue, household objects, stencils--can't stand up even to Rockwell's simple but useful Printmaking (1974), and the ideas for collage and three-dimensional projects (such as cardboard reliefs and masks) don't go much further. The drawing section though--which covers design rather than draftsmanship and includes tips on form contrast, light and dark combinations, and variations and arrangement of size and shape--could be fruitful in the right hands. In sum, no more than a nudge, though suitably non-directive.
