FIGHTING WORDS by Donald Ogden Stewart

FIGHTING WORDS

By

Publisher: Harcourt, Brace

This is a merging of speeches made at the American Writers' Congress last summer, and the result is a book on the various problems of the writer today, both creative problems and distributive. Outstanding among the contributors are Dorothy Parker, Millen Brand, Vincent Sheean, di Donato, Kaltenborn, and others. The general effect is definitely a ""socially conscious"" one, art the product of the people to be directed to the people. Among the problems discussed are substance, technique, the role of the Negro in literature, the role of the writer on the air, in Hollywood, the need for organization to protect author rights, etc. Interesting, but sharply limited.
