CREATIVE CHURCHMANSHIP

Creative Churchmanship is intended to be a volume of pastoral advice on enlarging the horizons of American churches, in such a way as to make Christianity ""meaningful"" to those who are committed to the institutional Church. In that spirit the author touches on almost every subject of interest to the pastor-administrator: the scheduling of Sunday school, the agenda for meetings of parish organizations, attendance at conferences, the proper time for midweek services, and so forth. The book, in fact, is almost a guide on how to be a successful pastor -- if being a successful pastor depends upon the business-like organization of one's parish in every detail, from the proper completion of the marriage record to the optimum distribution of church literature. Doubtless, many clerics will find the book of value. But one wonders What a Francis of Assisi, or a Malcolm Boyd, or a Martin Luther King, might make of it?
