WAR PONY

In the year 1800, the horse was a most significant and necessary animal on the plains of the Southwest. Gavilan, a beautiful roan, began his career with a most appreciative owner on a ranch in New Mexico. But as the Spanish army struggles with the Indians, Gavilan's services are soon employed. His capture and recapture by various Indian tribes, his return to the Spaniards and his final act of supreme valor as he makes phenomenal speed over the Plains with a soldier attempting to divert a whole tribe of Blackfoot from his regiment, finally earns Gavilan his freedom and return to Sombrero Ranch. What might have been an exciting tale is alas unremarkable reading because of dry uninspired writing.
