SUGAR BUSH

Pub Date: April 9th, 1947

Maple sugar season in Vermont in a book that really goes into the process thoroughly. This catches the excitement of the swift change of season, from dead winter to running sap, the spring, and the fierce activities associated with the actual sugaring. Life in the small town is described, and Meeting Hill is a segment of that life. The Allan family and the new settlers, the Kolocheks, work at sugaring together because this is the latter's first year on an American farm. The Kolocheks had worked in a mill town until they could afford to buy their farm, and are happy at last to be back working the soil their Polish hearts love. Good family and neighbor relations, lively children, and the thrill of community achievement.
