SIDE SADDLE

After an age of emancipated women who had to do everything the same as men, more and more women are turning from riding astride to side saddle. Anyone who has attained any degree of skill in a side saddle will agree they feel far more secure and prefer it to astride. Certainly there is much to be said for the charm and looks of a woman in formal hunting attire riding side saddle. Mrs. Houblon is not just a teacher or a hunting woman but both. The daughter of a well known horseman who has studied her subject impartially and scientifically with any eye to eliminating outmoded methods and improving the system. Detailed studies with a slow motion camera have aided these studies and the illustrations are extremely helpful. They were originally shown at the Institute of the Horse, London, that excellent organization which serves as a college for equitation instructors. The foreword is by a former chief instructor at the Equitation School at Weedon where Britain trains her cavalry officers. So the oracle has spoken and American riders will listen.
