Comprehensive is the key word for this large, thorough, artlessly written guide to houseplant cultivation. More than 200 genera are represented with species and varieties that add up to a grant total of 1136 plants. Listed by Latin name, each entry includes pointers on such subjects as misting, air circulation, dormancy periods, potbound threshholds, and size, shape, color, and likelihood of flowers as well as the usual light/water/bug information. But frequently the sentences are bizarre: ""This sun and water loving plant is not difficult for success at home, if one heeds undemanding cultural needs."" Too bad, because the advice is solid and the line drawings are a pleasant accompaniment.
