Chou San's adventures are told in eight stories, all based on Chinese folk legend. Chou San is an inquisitive little boy, his mentor is the old Hermit, who has some magical insights. Most of the stories involve the loquacious wild life of the village or objects brought to life. The dialogue is generally very colloquial and seems out of place. The print is large and the book may appeal to beginning readers looking for something a little out of the ordinary. Otherwise the collection in inconsequential.
