WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A BABY

Illustrated in pastel colors and maternity-pamphlet style, this introduces a peaches-and-cream toddler, hand raised in greeting--""Hi! I'm Jimmy. I'm four years old""; and the rest is just as utilitarian, unimaginative, and one-dimensional. The Helmerings (mother and sixth-grader son) have Jimmy feeling GLAD, MAD, SCARED, and SAD about the prospect of a new baby in the family, and then feeling much better after kindly Mr. Bond next door stops trimming his roses to explain that it's okay to have all those feelings both before and after the baby's arrival. An unadorned message, which endorses Jimmy's feelings but evokes none.
