WHEN THE NEW YEAR CAME IN MARCH

Publisher: Dutton

This a delightful story of the Jenner family, who left England in 1634 and journeyed across the Atlantic in the good ship ""Friendship"" to make a how home for themselves in Connecticut. The Jenners are a lusty group from sixteen-year-old Humphrey down to six-year-old Joseph, who celebrates his birthday by getting rid of the hated long skirts, and donning breeches exactly like his father's. As a family they have much to do in shaping the laws of their new home. Many little known customs and practices of the colonists are included in this story which will make an excellent supplementary reader for children who are studying the colonial period in American history. There is adventure and excitement enough to satisfy both boy and girl readers.
